After a few months of unemployment, I took a temp gig with a company who shall remain nameless. The reason for the namelessness is so I am not sued for libel.
I knew going into the gig that the position was a temp-to-perm, which means that I could be hired on permanently if they liked me. I also knew after the interview that this wasn't an audit shop (it was an internal audit position) that I knew I didn't want to work for.
So, today was my 4th day. Long story short, I was in a meeting with another temp employee, the supervisor and the manager. I was asked a question, I answered the question. The manager responded and by his response, I could tell that he didn't understand my answer. So, I said something to try to clarify my response.
The next thing the manager said was "You need to talk less and listen more".
The meeting was then over.
I proceeded to walk to my cubicle and gather my things.
I then walked back into the manager's office. By then, his boss, a VP, was sitting in his office. I normally would knock and ask to come in. This time I just walked in, laid my badge on his desk and said, "Nobody tells me to shut up" and I left the building.
Now, anyone that knows me knows that I do not walk off a job. They also know that I will stand up for myself. That was the single most unprofessional encounter I have ever had. I may not have reacted in the most professional manner, but damn it felt good.
I don't care how broke I am right now, I refuse to be treated that way. So, it's back to the job hunt for me!
